The overuse, typically by residents of the USA, of the word ‘awesome’. The word awesome really should be reserved for a very few moments in life, when you truly are in awe of something.
For example:
- When your first child is born
- When you see Mars through a telescope
- When you go scuba diving for the first time and realise that there’s an entire ecosystem that you’ve never explored
- When you realise that almost nothing on the internet really matters to your life
Someawe is the misguided notion that awesome means that:
- You got told something mildly interesting
- Something of almost no real consequence happened, but you want to make the other parties in the conversation feel like you’re interested
- [insert any, more or less, banal thing / situation]
